Went for a fish this morning, stocked up on fresh squid and off i went...I managed 4 pretty ordinary fish...

Just as i was slowly packing up and casted out my third last squid strip, the rod started bouncing, picked it up then started pump and wind, it had a bit of weight behind it (using a 3-5 kg outfit) it swam with me then went for a dive, then the same thing again (sort of like a Flatty, might have been for all i know) until I got it close and it went to the right and under a rock where it planted itself, after jumping around the place trying to get it to come out, the hook popped out of its mouth, and my long shank was slightly bent.

Its driving me nuts, i dont know what it was...

G'day rockfisherman,

That fish sounds like it might have been a nice bream - they often do that when deep hooked, but if you got your hook back (fish was lightly hooked) then the fish would have fought harder...

maybe it was a flathead to 50cm that just ran out of area in which to swim....

Only way to find out is to go fishing again....and again....and again....did I mention to go fishing again?

It could have been a big groper. they often run into caves in the rocks

we got a drummer from the rocks on a squid strip a few weeks back, very suprising indeed.. so yes, it well could have been a pig and as we all know even a small drummer can put u under a rock in no time.. keep tryin mate! :05:
