Catchin Jack Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) Morning Raiders, Well ventured out to The Entrance late last night for a quick flick, got there and walked past a father and son fishing and asked the usual "caught anything" to which they replied "nope nothin". So I send out a plastic and start my retrieve when my plastic gets slammed and my drag screams, after a little fight, in comes a healthy flattie. The father and son come over and ask what i'm using and I show them, the son mentions he's never used a plastic and what they're like etc, so I offer him a plastic to try to which he nervously says yes to. So off to the car I go and grab a plastic and hook and rig up his rod so he can give it a go, so after a quick lesson in how to use them he casts out. Give it a couple of casts later and a little more instruction and he's onto his first flattie, he felt good catchin it and I felt good converting him away from baits. Only a few casts more and he's onto another good sized flattie, here I was with only one fish and this kid is fishin like a pro and kickin my butt. Well it was a little late so I packed up my gear and wished them a good night. Was great to see this kid give plastics a go and was even better seeing how happy he was hooking up on these flatties, still trying to get the right word for how I felt being out fished by a kid that had never used plastics before in his life but great feeling seeing the look on his face and his fathers and knowing they'll be at the shop buying their own sometime today. Sorry no pics as it was to dark. Cheers, Leo Edited December 21, 2009 by Fezza
Hodgey Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 That's a great story, Leo. Good on you for taking the time to show the young bloke the basics and supplying him with his first plastic. I hope karma rewards you with something special in the future! Cheers Hodgey
arpie Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 .....here I was with only one fish and this kid is fishin like a pro and kickin my butt....... hehehe Doesn't that always happen? Then they say something like - Gee, that was easy!!! I'd love to watch his 2nd outing! Good on you Leo for showing the lad the ropes! He will probably go on to fish in the ABT Tournaments!!! Cheerio Roberta
cut_loose Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 well done thats a great report mate what plastics where you using ? cheers
coastspinna Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 good to see some young fella's getting the plastics bug, another converted to the fine art of flicking and yet another person to cull the flathead population of the entrance.. fortunatly ive given the flatties a miss early this season and have been cleaning up on the perch... but thats another story all together! remember, in heavily fished areas like the entrance PLEASE catch and release
Catchin Jack Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 I was using the Gulp Power Minnow (nuclear chicken) in 3 inch with a 1/16oz Nitro jig head. Method was just a nice slow retreive. Cheers, Leo
