DarkHorse Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 G'Day Crew, Mentioned in another post I have a new shimano stradic Ci4 2500F. Certainly not as nice as my daiwa's but nice none the less. Anyhow is a 2500 size reel too big for finess fishing for flatty's, bream, whiting etc? I already have a 1000, 2000 size reels and was thinking that the 2500 could also be used for slightly bigger fish such as snapper and jewfish?? Not too sure if I should swap it for the 1500 size?? Regards, Rob
johnno Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I am currently using 2500 reel for my plastic/poppers/vibes I have hooked kings on 2500 reels and it is fun i find the shimano 2500 a good size When fishing around heavy structure i like the extra drag with the 25 which helps turn the fish in the structure but that also depends on the stick your using The 2500 helps the line flow a little better off for a little longer casts. i enjoy using the D2000/S1000 size reels for a little finesse style As for swapping it that is up to you.
Slaka Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 2500 is a great alrounder size real, small enough to chase the estuary species abut big enough to have a bit of fun on sambos and kingies. It is also ideal for chasing bigger flatties and jewies with bigger lures.
ron.c Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 it's going to be very hard to swap it for 1500. the stradic ci4 only comes in a 1000. and 2500 size. even the FI stradic don't have 1500.
slayer666 Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 I would go for the 2500 size its awsome for wide range of fish. Hope this helps in anyway Cheers Joe
slinkymalinky Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 G'day Rob, I've got a 2500 Stradic and it's a great and very versatile reel. For bream and whiting with really light rods and lures though, I prefer my 2000 Sol or Luvias... more because the slightly smaller reel is just more comfortable to fish with that way for extended periods. The 2500 gets used most in places like the Gold Coast seaway where, loaded with 10lb braid (instead of 4 or 6 on my smaller reels), it does a great job on the bigger flatties, school jewies, trevally and other ooglies. As well as being able to effectively fish a wider range of lures/baits. Definitely worth having the 2500 as the versatile workhorse mate. Cheers, Slinky
rockfisherman Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 2500 Stradic has 7 kilos of drag compared to the 3 kilos of drag from a 1500 or 1000 size Shimano reel, so when you are battling a King for instance you can put the hurt on...
IVZ350 Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 iv recently just upgraded to a stradic 2500 on a setup of mine and can say i absolutely love it
DarkHorse Posted December 25, 2009 Author Posted December 25, 2009 G'Day Crew, Thanks for all of the replies. Ron.C was correct Shimano dont make a 1500 size reel, either 2500 or 1000 size. The new Stradic is a nice looking reel, very light but I found it quite "rough". No where near as smooth as my 12 month old Luvias's..................... Took the reel back and tried another of the same size as well as the 1000 size, again not very smooth. Maybe I have been spoilt by the daiwa's (not wanting to turn this into a Daiwa vs Shimano debate). They had a Shimano Aspire in stock. Had a play and very nice. Up the with the Luvias. VERY smooth although not a light as the stradic (alloy frame compared to carbon). The Aspire sits under the shimano stella quality wise, although not listed on the shimano web site is a custom order. Balances very nicely with T-Curve Tournament 7 foot. Now all I have to do is actually catch some fish.......................
