dhype Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) Hi fellow Raiders Long time lurker , first time post! This is going to be a long post but bear with me ! Purchased a small tinny a few months back and have been slowly working out how to fish Botany Bay... after some time in the water I think we have finally cracked the formula! Been taking out a few of my mates and the on the boat and hasn't the past few weekends been great on the bay! We have boated countless flathead up to 80cm on plastics, a few kings to 71cm, a jewfish and a million chopper tailor + other species in amungst it all. 3 weekends ago we cleaned up on the flathead.. we boated so many that we lost count - took home 16 flatties to 65cm for a feed. A massive flattie which was 80cm+ was released to make more babies... my mate Tom also managed a small jewfish (yum!). All fish caught on soft plastics, a technique we only picked up a few weeks earlier ! Stacks of chopper tailor working the surface that day also - they all committed suicide on metal lures. 2 weekends ago tried for some kingfish for the first time only to get busted up 4 x times within an hour! Knowing the fish were there, the boys and I hit the bay again on the Sunday. Sent out a few livies and it wasn’t too long before they got chewed by the kingies!! Had a total for 4 x hookups - lost 2 x big kingfish right next to the boat and just an arm’s length from the landing net !, got busted up once more by another fish and then finally I land my first legal kingie going 71cm !! Smiles and hi 5s all round !! Last weekend, took the wife out on Saturday to show her how to use SPs as she has never used them and does not fish much... in 2 hours we land 7 flathead and a massive whiting.. funny thing is she actually out fished me on her first attempt using SP !! She likes the boat and fishing now !! Get a call later that Saturday afternoon from Tom and Pete who wants to chase some kingies - so off we go again on Sunday morning.. we grabbed some livies and sent them out... after about 20 minutes I see my rod tip twitch ever so slightly.. i pickup up the rod, took up the slack line and 3 seconds later I screamout .. I'm on boyz !!! The guys bring in the rest of the lines and after a decent fight a 70cm king is boated.. 2 kings in 2 weeks for me !! All the livies were sent back out and shortly afterwards Pete's rod goes off and he too is on to a fish..fights the fish for 5 minutes or so and lands he first kingie ever and it went 70cm !! Pete was all smiles !! In between the kings we boat a few flathead and I managed to land the smallest flattie I have seen, right before Pete lands a much bigger 55cm fish!!! My mate Tom is still waiting to land he first legal kingie after getting busted up twice.. he is still suffering from fish depression !! hahahah !! (no worries mate - we'll get them this weekend!!) So that was some of our fishing adventures for the past weeks- I have had that many people on my 4m tinny it’s not funny.. everyone who has been on has caught a stack of fish and has had heaps of fun which is the most important thing! As the word /photos spread amongst workmate/friends.. everyone including strangers wants to come along - might start charging !!! HAHAHAH Hope you enjoyed this long post and pictures - see you all on the water! DHYPE! My 8cm flathead next to pete's slightly bigger unit! Edited December 22, 2009 by dhype

Nice effort Dhype and what a good way for you and your friends to introduce yourselves there's some nice fish there by the way ... mc fishn that wouldn't happen to be the hat in the background that takes up the whole bow area by any chance would it, or is it what I think it is, just a couple of straw hats modified to take the place of a home made bimini Cheers jewgaffer
mrelxr6 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 top report.... what rig and bait did you use on the kings???? did you down rigg?
dinos22 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 nice fish there jeez it's a small world............ good old days at James Cook Boys are well behind us thats for sure
dhype Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) Hi Nathen - The rig we use is nothing special - just using a running ball sinker to a swivel and a live bait hook at the end of some 40lb leader... No downriggers used as i dont have one (yet!) Bait is yakkas or squid if we catch any - hard work finding them ATM. Cheers DHYPE! Edited December 22, 2009 by dhype

dhype Posted December 23, 2009 Author Posted December 23, 2009 sensationonal stuff guys thats alot of fish u have caught over the last few weeks i hope u use them wisely good on u wanna take me fishing ???? craig Hi Craig we only took what we could eat for the week and chucked back plenty of keepers - once we divided it up it was only a few fish per person... I just bought a fish smoker and the flatties come up just fine !! Polished off 8 fillets in a single sitting - YUM! You wanna come out with me ??? I'll put you in the bookings list along with all the others hahaha! Cheers DHYPE! What type of purse sein net were you guys using did not use a purse seine net - I prefer drag nets and longlining in the bay... More efficent!

tkasing Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 sensationonal stuff guys thats alot of fish u have caught over the last few weeks i hope u use them wisely good on u wanna take me fishing ???? craig Put it this way mate, i've been eating so much fish over the last couple of months, my doctor says my cholesterol level is on the low side. he says "gotta to get some red meat into ya". I'd choose a nice fillet of flat head back strap over scotch fillet anyday.
jenno64 Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 You guys are braining the fish and good to see the big girl released!! Keep the posts coming.
