Hi all,

Picked up a couple of nice sized whiting around the Roseville bridge last week ... currently in the freezer. Would you eat fish from that area? I've heard a couple of rumours lately that the area might not be so friendly?

Cheers,

I'm pretty sure Chopper75 has eaten quite a few fish from there.

I've also heard someone got some bad infection from a cut on a boat ramp there.

When i fished there - it had rained recently and there was a disgusting layer of fifth sitting on the top of the water.

Its alright mate.

You won't need to take a torch next time you go fishing :1prop:

Only kidding, I would be far more worried by the western reaches of the harbour or the upper georges river.

Cheers

I think its funny how theres signs saying don't eat fish from here, but its alright a kilometer or so down the river! Is there a fence around that section stopping the fish from moving out? If the fish look good & healthy then I'd eat them. We fished Bondi murk for years before the outfall went in & none of us got sick. The same thing was said then, don't eat the fish from there, their contaminated. Most of the fish caught there were kingfish, tailor etc all which travel up & down the coast

All to true Guys But Better safe then Sorry, I would eat fish around the heads but not parra river

if a jew or kingy was caught at the quarintine marker whos to say it wasnt under the gladesville bridge the night before????

seems to me that if you are eating fish from anywhere in sydney the chances are your already taking a risk that it hasnt been anywhere poluted such as the cooks river or the parramatta river!

How long are fish affected by toxic pollution and when would be a safe time frame to eat them after they leave these areas?

surely if these fish are that dangerous to eat the authorities would ban the taking of fish from any of these waterways - or would they?

My personal opinion is eat them in moderation and there shouldnt be a problem.

pete.
