clem Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Going out on a mates boat for salt water species on Sunday. This is the first time for him and me. He has always done fresh water/lake fishing if it makes any sense? I have put this topic up b4 but was hoping someone would KINDLY pass on a spot or two for us to try. (He has a fish finder/gps) It would be a shame for us to spend the entire day on the boat only to go home with nothing. We are not fussed with where as it all depends on who will be KIND We would prefer calm waters such as Balmoral and up towards Spit bridge or B.Bay. Send me a P.M. if you wish/prefer. Looking ANXIOUSLY FORWARD to your reply. P.S. Will keep it to myself if you prefer. Cheers Clem If you pass a boat with 4 blokes sulking on it say 'HI' as it will be me/us. Sorry I have no idea what type of boat he has.

G'Day Clem, Sorry I cant help you because I dont catch any fish In botany bay, try anchoring near the hot water outlet, all I know it is near the big wharf, dont know the exact position. Also try just off the end of the runways (outside the yellow markers - security) for bigger fish. Botany bay can be very noisy obviously due to the aircraft. Regards, Rob
tan the fisherman Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) Clem, Recommending a spot for you and your mates depends on the captains ability. From what you have said I gather that all have had little hours on the water. I would recommend you take the trip to Apple Tree Bay/ Bobbin Head. Easy boat ramp and well inland enough to have calm waters most of the time. Head to Jerusalem Bay and you will find fish an hour before and after high tide. Here's what we caught there on Saturday night, she went well over one metre tip to tail. She was released unharmed. If you cant get out that way try to get up to Bantry Bay. Calm waters and usually some flatties up there. Good luck Tan Edited December 23, 2009 by tan the fisherman

Sorry I have no idea what type of boat he has. Hi Clem. good luck this time mate....sounds like it's going to be a long session involving four keen fishermen full of expectancy and rightly so the way everyone else has has been catching plenty of fish for a long while now ... Try this straight forward routine and stick to it ay, time soon passes by when your'e anchored and fishing anyway...After you have a good go at burleying up some bait close in off jetties etc in the very early morning run in, fish in these few well know spots starting out at first light more or less and have four similiarly rigged up, nicely baited rods out at once, after running your sounder over the deepest water that can be found say on the bend where the main water turns to run into Bantry Bay for an hour or so after the morning high due sometime between 8.30 and 9.30am or so depending on which day you'll be fishing... then after the tide in the main water starts to pick up fairly well on the run back out, fish a fair way from but down current square off the other boats that might well be anchored in the deepest water they can find around the moored boats between the rowers club and the marina... In the mid afternoon part of the session, say a couple of hours or so into the run in tide, sound out and fish outside the wreck near the mouth of Sailors Bay on the main water side towards the spit....four rods out with large well presented baits are bound to catch some decent fish to share, but make sure everyone on board fishes with similiar gear at the same time otherwise the routine gets disorganised all over the place so to speak.... Getting that in order and sticking to it is the hardest part, so have a chat with your friends over the phone and, as Tan suggests in his advice, perhaps appoint a captain and go thru it all together first.... Hope this helps Clem, it's a shame but I wouldn't think you'll have your old workmate Don on board with you worse luck Cheers jewgaffer Edited December 23, 2009 by jewgaffer
clem Posted December 23, 2009 Author Posted December 23, 2009 Thanks all. Just got back from shopping and had a quick read. Will make time tomorrow to read and plan things for Sunday. I plan to print this info as well and show the "skipper" as a lot of it is a bit hard to follow/understand. I suppose a slow read through will make sense. Pretty tired now as it has been a long day and I still have the kids to put to bed. Cheers 4 now.
clem Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 O.K. Finally had a chance to read and follow a report. It makes a lot of sense when I toggle between the places on google maps while I read It is going to be fun as only the skipper and I are the keen fisho's whereas the other 2 are just tagging along for fun.(I think ) There is a hidden competitiveness between the 4 of us as we play soccer and squash together so you can only imagine. Plan of action. 1. Get there as early as possible at Roseville Ramp. 2. Burley up some live bait. Is it a good idea to do it at the ramp or elsewhere? 3. Scoot over to Bantry Bay to find a hole and anchor up. 4. Set the rods with live bait and wait. Might be a bit to early for this though! 5. Depending on action and time availability we might move to Sailors Bay. I don't know how keen the guy's will be to stay on the water the entire day so we will just see. Feel free to add to this as I do have a "VAST" experience in fishing as you all know. Might add a comment or two as the time draws nearer but for now I wish myself luck. Not targetting anything specific as long as it is something Thanks again to ALL who have taken the time to reply. Cheers Clem
cameldownunder Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 If the skipper can manage, have a look at the búoy at North Head / Quarantine. Kingys there. Catch some Squids and you should be fine. Also for sunday a northern wind is predicted, good protection from the heads. Might see you there
clem Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 Yes I am back again. The is starting to get a bit because I keep reading and planning my attack She say's to just go out there and enjoy the moment. My response was that I do not know when I will get a chance to go out again so I would like to make the most of this trip. So here goes. New plan. Will be fishing the run in tied only. (4pm high) 1. Launch at tunks creek around 12pm and shoot over to Balmoral Island for live bait. Hey Shadda do you mean anywhere around the island or a specific side? 2. If successfull then shoot back to sailors bay and anchor up where Jewgaffer mentioned. 3. Depending on time we might stay in the area and try with some bananna prawns. Should I peel them or not? 3. Hopefully have some action and enjoy the moments both at Balmoral and at sailors bay. Thanks for the suggestion cameldowunder but North Head is a bit rough for my sea legs and besides I have never tried for squid. That would be an adventure for the future. So that is my new plan of attack and I hope it will be ok Cheers Clem
clem Posted December 26, 2009 Author Posted December 26, 2009 Compliments to all raiders or should I say? "complaints" Nope COPLIMENTS at this point. Well what do you know I have to change my plans again. The skipper wants to launch in Five Dock. So it seems such a waste to go all the way to Sailors Bay where I was going to fish or will the trip not take that long? Should we stay in the area I will most likely fish Balmain. So once again I am at the mercy/generosity of fellow raiders to bail me out Can I PLEASE get advice. Cheers Clem 4 The new readers out there I am landbased 99% of the time and it is very seldom that I get to go on a boat so I would like to make the most of this trip.

Cheers Clem If it was up to me Clem, I'd be telling the skipper that the committee had a secret ballot and decided to have meat lover's pizza for lunch in Five dock instead of launching there and having a gastro attack... tide'n'knots Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 try burlying with some bread soaked in water with a little tuna oil and cast lightly weighted or weightless peeled prawn baits around the moored boats ! try and find a bay or marina etc where the tidal flow is slow out of the main current with a decent depth, there should be some good bream around ATM. also a fresh squid bait or tailor slab in the main river just out from a deep shoreline around the high tide mark could produce a jew, as there has been a few around in the parra river lately. good luck pete.
Mytime Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 (edited) Hi guys. Lucky you...
