richard_pdc
Hi all Headed out to middle harbour on wednesday for a fish was unsure if it was a good idea due to the poor weather , Got to rose bay at 4pm and went straight to the bait grounds for live bait could not get the bait to rise after 20 mins was just about to give up and they appeared . but very shy to eat so had no luck there so move to clifton gardens with some fresh squid and live prawns, only caught some large bream and two good size flatheads .it got very quite and by then there was six boats around me decide to move closer to rose bay . Got to the markers out the front of rose bay and anchored in front fished for a hour andin the hour we caught several tailor and some legal size bream with only a few pieaces of bait left we caught this It was 65 cm long it was the first legal jewfish for 2009 on my boat so took some photos and relased him to swim another day . As we were leaveing we got a vist from the water police he ask us to move he said that you are not aloud to anchor any where in the channel from gladsville to manly this is the first i have heard of it , i was aware of the harbour bridge rule but never heard of the channel rule . he then ask for my boat licence i told him i did not need one unless i travel ten knots he told me i was wrong and that if the vessel was capable of doing more then ten knots you must get one , I came home and checked the nsw martime rules it states you only get a licences if you travel over ten knots . any way i since have paid for a licence and now awaiting for my test . Watch out next time you go out Richard
bluebottle18
Interesting comments. I agree with you about licence. This was always explained to me as well. Unless you exceed 10 knots you didnt need a licence. No you cant anchor in channels , that has always applied but not enforced. A number of areas west of harbour bridge popular for fishing are no anchor zones so be carefull.
