the one that got away
Ive noticed that when using live baits that 7/10 time they get snagged up! I give them about a 1metre of line every now and again Should i not give out as much line for them to swim around freely or is it my rig? I use 20lb mono main line, ezyrig with a tear drop style sinker, down to a swivel, to 30lb leader, to one or two 4/0 hooks. Sorry if its a stupid question. Cheers, Zac
A.dawg
Try using a float or if the live bait is are baitfish snip the top bit of its tail so it swims upwards. If squid then theres not much u can do but i rarely get snagged using live squid
zephi
I don't know... but I sometimes have the feeling the snag are caused by crabs pulling the bait into their holes, stingrays, and octopuses pulling into their holes. Using sinkers greatly increases the chances of it. So I tend to go weightless, but even then when the fish weakens it sinks down and snag... Day's Fishin
Hey Zac you don't say what sort of live bait your using or how big it is. 30lb leader is alright but i've found the tear drop sinkers for some reason do get caught up even when using dead baits. If there is octopus or eels there they will definately snag you up, but you should be able to tell if something is snaging you, a small funny bite or a slow pulling just befor it snags. macnaz
Try using a heavy ish ball sinker and hang the bait so it not touching the bottom.. Or as said above use a float. With the float set it up so the line runs free thru it and using another bit of fishing line make a stopper by tying it up on the main line. Make it tight enuf so it will only slide if u want it to.. Then just set it to the depth u want the livey to drop to, still use a bit of weight tho to stop it wanting to keep swimming to the surface.. Hope i made sense explaining that lol
