Aqua Naut
Headed out with Big Kev yet again this time giving Botany Bay the flick and trying the Harbour for some good Kings. Anchoured at the bait grounds on light and within the first minute of burling up the yellow tails were every where. Got 20 in 10 minutes in the tank no problems. Hand my little Shimano GTS bream outfit out with a yellowtail fillet beneath the schools of bait and bang the little 4000 shimano reel was pulling line like there was no tomorrow With 4kg line I'm thinking there is no way I'm going to get this King on the boat. With slowing him up and playing around to ware him down he finally comes to the surface and it's a beautie King going 75cm We decided to head for North Head to downrig a few Livies but after several drifts we didn't get any takers. We then headed to Quarantine Bay and anchored up close to the marker bouys as the activity on the sounder was going belistic. We got the livies down and before it hit the bottom BUZZ BUZZ were on again and Kev hooks another good fish. After another 5 minute fight it's in the boat going 72cm We were in this spot for a good 2 hours and we manage to go through all our livies in that period. We hooked onto another 10 Kings but these guys were all just under the legal size going 60 to 63cm. All released to grow bigger!!! We had a mixed bag of Snapper and Tarwine caught from this spot but all under legal size and released. We also hooked a Port Jackson Shark a quick snap shot and back in the drink. Plenty of Fun and it was time to head to the colours and with about 10 livies back in the tank we headed there drifting several times over the reef. Kevs big Shimano TD25 is BUZZING This was no Rat this was a Hoodlum. She was pulling 10kgs of Drag and she still kept running and there was no stopping this guy straight down to the reef and Ping. This was a good fish we think over the 100cm mark easy. We did the same drift over and over and we hooked up again this time my silstar was going to cop a workout and at full drag she was no match with 20lb mono no chance in hell of slowing these guys up We managed to hook up 4 times but with no luck. These were big Kings and I'm going to load up with 50lb next time. It was one hell of a day. We decided to head back in and call it a day. Can't wait to do it again soon!!! Day's Fishin
Sounds like you had a hot session. It's great to fight a big king even if he wins the bout. Regards Jeff
royboy
Great report guys. A very hot session indeed. But I doubt 50lb will be sufficient for the hoods you were hooking. Better be safe and go 80lb. Cheers.
