Hey guys, ive just changed the impeller and all gaskets and seals with it on my mercury 85hp blueband (4cylinder inline) and also done a gear box oil change.

When ive started up the motor(on the hose) it would not go into forward or reverse..any ideas how this might of happened or if i did something wrong during the re-assembly ?

thanks

You've knocked the gear linkage at some point. Drop the box off again and assuming the throttle lever is in neutral ensure the gear box is in neutral too ie turn the prop and if the main shaft rotates its in gear use the shift lever to get to neutral. Then reassemble.

You probably haven't stuffed anything its just a shift alignment thing.

Let us know how you go.

C.

Hi, your engine has a splined top and lower shift shaft that rotates to change gears. You will have missed lining them up when re-installing the gearbox. As Chris said remove gearbox make sure g/box and engine are in neutral and re-install.

Cheers,

Huey.
