sydneyfishoaddict
hi all. went to avoca yesterday. got there around 1pm. the spot was full. lucky a couple of fishos left as we got there and took their spot. there was a big crowd watching a rescue. someone got injured. didnt really see what happened. we were told by the surf rescue that the rescue chopper is on its way and that it will land next to us and told us to make some room. the rescue chopper landed in the nearby park instead on the rocks. we rigged up and used whole pillies as bait. the wind was starting to blow(southerly) so casting was starting to get harder. the wind died after about 1 hr. fishos on our right were catching bonitos almost every 10mins so my mate decided to move to the spot where they were catching bonitos. excellent move. my mate started catching bonitos as well. the problem was every time someone got something it gets tangled with the other lines. thats how packed the spot was. i decided to stay on our spot hoping the bonitos will go there as well. after 2hrs i got my 1st bonito. almost anyway. i got busted off when i was reeling it in. i was using a 10lb mono which was a big mistake. the bonito went to the rock ledge and cut me off. after that i decided to move to where my mate is. it was too late. the bonitos were gone and we run out of bait. my mate ended up with 3 bonitos between 40cm to 50cm. my mate was very happy coz that was his 1st bonito. we were trying to catch bonitos for more than a year and finally he got some. pity i didnt get any. maybe next time. my mate wants to go back again next week and i told him we have to be there early so we can get a good spot. on the way to our car, we finally met ray r. that made my day. finally i met the man. maybe 1 day ray r can show us how it is done properly. catching bonitos and other pelagics.
