Botany B - 6/1/10

Hey Raiders.

Last Saturday morning the missus and I embarked on our 2nd only Botany Bay trip. With so much water to pick from (and no inkling of any good locations), we ventured to the middle of the bay near a couple of boats. A number of baitfish breaking the water, but unfortunately were not lucky. We decided to drop anchor there rather than chase anything around the harbour.

My missus got a bite but as it was being reeled in it took off. It took a few minutes to get to the boat. As it got closer, it was only a small snapper but just as it hit the top, a huge flattie let go and swam off. It must have been at least 60 - 70cms long (“the one that got away” story) . We almost caught a fish that caught a fish. A few undersized then we moved around the Bay with not much luck until we stopped off the Kurnell end of Towra.

Got busted off once or twice but finally the missus pulled in her 1st trevally (we have only really fished from the shore previously for bream and whiting). A great fight on light gear for 39cms.

Just after that I landed a 34cm bream. We had a few more hits but mainly pulled in just undersized bream and baby snapper. The last few trips up the Georges and last week in the Bay, I always bring up something strange. Shovel nosed ray 1 week, port Jackson shark the next week to a 30cm puffer fish. This week it was a monster octopus. When will the water let me just claim a normal big bugger?

Not much to right home about but very proud of the missus with her 1st trevally. Fishing is a bit like golf. You go out and not do much, but when you land/hit a good one, it just keeps you coming back. Plus there's ALWAYS something to spend your money on.

How come the photos always look smaller than the tape measure ?? :fisher:
