tan the fisherman
THE belief that fish have only a miniscule memory span is rubbish, according to an Australian scientist who has catalogued a long list of behaviour associated with the ability to remember. Dr Kevin Warburton said the story of goldfish having a three-second memory - so they forget where they are after swimming around a bowl - should be relegated to fiction. Silver perch, a native freshwater fish, will remember a predator for several months after just one encounter, Dr Warburton of Charles Sturt University said. The perch also became better and better at catching certain types of food, which he said proved their ability to learn. Fish Memory story
