zen801
Went out this morning with my daughter and her friend for a birthday spin. She likes fishing all of a sudden. It was hard for the first time in months to get any yakkas at the usual spots just plagues of pinkies. Did manage to pick up a squid so moved close to the Spit Bridge. Put him down live but the pinkies killed him. Saved the hood and stripped him up. Put a bait down and to my surprise i caught my first samson fish. He was a bout 50cm and pretty chunky. These guys put in a good account of themselves. Boat near us got a kingy but all up a bit slow. Mike
blower
Even our lesser sized east coast samsons give a good fight mate eh. Sort of a special treat instead of a king being just as good table fare. Not as pretty though, look a bit like a mongrel dog. Piss'n'Broke
Nice work Mike. They go hard!!! I caught my first middle harbour samson in november last year at one of the spots you and jason like to fish. It was approx the same size 50-55. sanger
Hey mike, we have caught a couple of samsons over the last few years and i reckon for the size they probably go better than kings.... that being said though ive only caught them 60cm or under, it might all change after that. You will have to keep up your girls love of fishing.... easier to get yourself a leave pass if its to take the kids!!!!
Stacer560
samson fish are actually part of the king fish family, along with trevalis. They almost look like a port jackson shark just before they surface
