Anroco
Howdy Fellow Raiders, This may seem a silly question that i am sure will be answered swiftly, but am putting it out there as a friend posed the question to me and i had to think for a split second and got myself all confused... Think this may also help (Put in the memory bank) other Raiders when looking at and reading charts and maps, planning for trips to take the scale into account to judge distances ( As i have made it a point to study and understand trip times and distances for safety pourposes. ) Have got the NSW issue of HOOKED IN PARADISE and as he was having a browse through it he asked me, "The SCALE on the bottom of the page ( For instance 1 : 16400 ) does that mean 1 cm = 16.4km's or 1 cm = 1.64 km's ???" After my mind blank, i answered him with 1cm = 1.64km's ( Which i hope was correct ) The look on his face was GREAT / PRICELESS as i think he underestimated distances taken from sattelite images.. NOW - Was i correct ?!?!?! CHeeRS Ant Edited January 21, 2010 by Anroco
Gremlin
http://www.ga.gov.au/topographic-mapping/b...s-map-scale.jsp Map scales mean 1cm on the map = however many cm on the ground for example 1:10,000 = 100m 1:25 000 = 250m 1:50,000 = 500m 1:100,000 = 1km 1:250,000 = 2.5km and so it goes 1:16400 thus = 164m
