locodave Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I took my boat for a service and they looked into the tilt and trim issue I spoke about before. They had two guys on the motor and they could lift the motor no problems. So today I took the boat in, and my only conclusion is that maybe since I ran aground I looked into the trim in more detail to the point I thought it wasn't working. This is what happens: In neutral: Motor Tilt's up and down no problems, no restrictions. Under 2,000 RPM: I can trim the motor up and down no problems From 2,000 RPM to around 4,500 RPM: There is only a certain amount I can trim the motor to, not maximum trim From 4,500 RPM onwards: I can trim all the way. Maximum trim. This is on a 40HP Oil Injected Mariner. Does this behaviour sound about right or is something slightly wrong with it? Thanks.
Blood Knot Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Sounds weird to me. Would not think there would be any relationship between motor rpm and tilt hydraulics, given the hydraulic pump that supplies pressure to the tilt cylinder (ram) is driven by its own 12vdc motor. Never heard of your prob before. Assuming it was function correctly ie: it would tilt over its full range of movement regardless of being in neutral or in gear at some particular speed etc I believe you still have a problem and your dealer or service guy should be able to diagnose/ fix. Cheers John
