Lukeanna Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 G'Day It has been a while since my last post, but have been busy driving half way across Australia to Gove NT. I took a job up here and now we reside in North East Arnhemland. The fishing is great up here and as we get into it more I will add more posts and photo's. I have added some photo's of my new boat, we brought on the way up here, we are over the moon with it, it has proven it's self well off Cairns in some very ordinary weather. Any way, see you next post.

Formosan Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Wow sounds like you moved to a fishing paradise and have a good looking boat to play around in. That looks like a Formosa half cabin.
hornets Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 We have friends that ended up there after travelling around Aus with a caravan . When they got up there the husband found a job fixing computers . They sold the van & the husband brought into a fishing boat & the wifr brought into a sail boat & they have been there for 2 years & dont look like returning for yet another year . Hope you have a great time there . I would love to hit that area for a trip .
hottyscotty Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 i've been to nhulunbuy a few times. my bro in law used to work for nabalco, which i think its alcan now. nice place to relax esp when you don't want a hectic holiday. fishing is great too.
arpie Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Hi guys Lots of top fishing up there!! My brother Neil was the dentist up there for about 15 years!! He sold the town practise a year or so ago, but still goes over to the commuities on a regular basis!! I caught my biggest Spanish Mac there in 2000 - about 20lb on a small travel rod & even smaller reel! We had to chase it or it would have spooled me! Wait til you see a water buffalo walking thru town!! Also keep an eye out for the crocs - there were some slides on the beach when we were there! Bet you'll be into the barra ASAP!!! Watch out - you'll have everyone wanting to go up & visit you!!!! Cheerio & enjoy the lifestyle!! Roberta
Lukeanna Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 Thanks everyone, I didn't tow the boat over, it was trucked to Darwin and put on a barge to Gove, and they did some damage to the motor cowling We came in on the Arnhem development rd, what a drive, must be one of the last true adventures in the out back left I reckon, 700K's of dirt rd and creek crossings! Loved it! Lots of people come and go by the sea, it is the only real stop between Cape York and Darwin it is definately on my to do list !
forliano Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Mate, You are a very lucky man... I been up there for Fishing trips twice and it was mesmerising, we were predominately throwing massive poppers from the stones and livebaiting off the stones but GT's, spannies, barracouda and the dreaded sharks (in the 1000s ) that were screaming 13kg of drag off like it was nothing ahh they were the days... Maybe next trip maybe catch up and we can have a fish or something... Cheers Ben
arpie Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) .....We came in on the Arnhem development rd, what a drive, must be one of the last true adventures in the out back left I reckon, 700K's of dirt rd and creek crossings!..... With the wet season under way up there, I reckon you'd be lucky to get thru by road now!!! Isn't Gove cut off by road, during the wet? Only acces by sea/air? Keep aware of the cyclones etc too - Neil had to run his trimaran up into the creeks a few times to keep it safe, after the first cyclone he experienced had the mooring ropes break & rammed his boat into another!! I take it you will be keeping your boat on the trailer when not in use? We went to Cape Arnhem & fished from the beach there , saw my first wild dingo on the beach, was too scared to swim in the water, but Neil dived in with no worries! Just remembered the reel of my Spanish Mac epic - a Shimano Bantam baitcaster. The whole thing fits in the palm of your hand! We were trolling big lures & mine suddenly 'snagged' & I told Neil that I had Snagged .... he said 'No way, we are in 30m of water! It's a fish!' This was trolling around the end of the giant wharf just out of town. Lots of Men in Grey Suits taking any bait or hooked fish, too!! Enjoy!! Roberta Edited January 26, 2010 by Roberta
Lukeanna Posted January 26, 2010 Author Posted January 26, 2010 Yep the development rd, or as everyone up here calls it, The Track - Understatement of the centry!- Is closed now, we came in mid December, Saw Buffalo's Wild Donkeys and Heaps of Brumbies as well. Amazing part of the world. I can just about see the Wharf from my Office Roberta, it kills me when I see blokes out there catching fish and I'm at my desk We were out there about a month ago, working on the loader and the garfish were that thick I reckon we could have walked back to shore on them!!
