austral Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 hello all, im in the market for a new jigging reel. im going to nz again in april and i need a new reel. what are your thoughts?? i was thinking the okuma vx80 or a catalina and maybe even a stella. besides nz it will be used off terrigal at the perch grounds(100m) but it wont be used every weekend. i have a starlo jig stik but i havnt really thought of the rod side of it yet.. any help would be appreciated thank you..
slinkymalinky Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 All good reels but all very different. If you're happy paying the $$ get the Stella. Second choice would be the Catalina and third, the Okuma. Any of these will do the job but the Stella will do it a lot better and for a lot longer. Cheers, Slinky
SZ1 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 As Slinky said the Stella would be my pick builtiful drag system, even at high drag line comes off very smoothly. Also as Stewy said don't leave out the Saltiga Exp 6500, upgrade the drag to carbonTex it will give you a very solid reel, between the Setlla and Salitga there is not much difference. As you are going to NZ jigging i would say go for the best you can afford as the kings will most likely be XOS and tackle murderers. with the list you ave i wuld go exactley as SLinly mentioned: Stella (or Saltiga) Catalina Okuma
framedtrash Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 go with the stella problem with the Saltiga is that first you spend all this money buying the reel then to get full use out of you have to go and spend more money on the upgraded drag the stella is great out of the box
prawn* Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 id say best bang for buck is the fin nor offshore 27kg drag under 300$ and u can stack heaps of line on these babys my mate did a charter in Wa chasing 30-40kg sambo's and never had a problem..
