fishon Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 hi guys im after a new prop for my 2004 model 25hp merc as my trim tab anode somehow moved and smashed it it currently is running a 13pitch just wandering if anyone knew what would be the somewhat perfect pitch for this motor as it goes good but hey lets face it if i can get more outa her i want it cheers guys
slinkymalinky Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 G'day fishon, unfortunately there's no such thing as perfect for any motor. It depends on a lot of variables. What sort of boat do you have the motor on... what sort of load does it usually carry (the total weight the motor is pushing will have a bearing on your prop. The Raiders who can help will need this info. Cheers, Slinky
a boat Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Hi, as Slinky mentioned there are alot of varibles and the most important bit is to know what RPM at WOT your engine was doing with that prop.Ideally you want to see about 5500 with that outboard and going down in pitch will help acceration, but you will lose top speed. Visa Versa going up in pitch, you will get more speed, but if it causes the engine to lug that is not at all desirable. A new alloy prop range from about $250 depending on if you go genuine or aftermarket. A SST prop will be dearer but they do perform better than an alloy prop. What RPM does she do at the moment if you know-your engine may not have a Tacho and some more detals like boat would help point you in the right direction. Cheers, Huey.
fishon Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) its like 1 of the first quintrexs ever made i think it might be a bit under powered as it is a real heavy boat but it still gets me out there just thought if i could gain a couple of knots would be good thanks guys also dont have a tacho so i wouldnt have a clue on the revs which does make it hard a Edited January 25, 2010 by fishon
