I have caught them on live nippers, tiny crabs and my favourite pippis. But it depends on where you are fishing. You have to use what is in there environment. In estuaries live nippers get the big ones and stop the pickers. I even have a mate that catches them on soft plastics as a by-catch causing bream and flathead.

ive seen alot of people using "squirt worms" / wrigglers they pump from georges river and from what ive seen they clean up on whiting n bream with them ive tried them few times and was pretty impressed usually just use a decent sized long shank hook on a light sinker sometimes also use a red bead or red tubing above the hook which is suposed to attract whiting (cannot confirm this as ive caught both with and without) fresh big prawns whole work well too

if u only want those larger whiting then soldier crabs but keep in mind they arnt that good of a bait... i recomend nippers and worms but u will get small as well as big theres no preventing the smallies

yeh live prawns are awesome for almost everything they never let me down although on a flathead trip i outfished live prawns and fresh baits with plastics
