Hi

I had an inspection from the NSW maritime, and the Officer told me that I need to have the fire extinguisher checked every 12 month, or -if it is stored in an "open" place, every 6 month.

Can someone confirm -with link-

And if confirmed, where can I have them checked? How much is it to check? It could be cheaper buy a new one

Hi Cameldownunder!

Yes you do need to have extinguishes checked every 12mths - I had workshops & we had an inspector come round to check the inspection tags (council or workcover??). Yes it would be cheaper for many boaties to buy a new one depending on the size of the extinguisher - if you have a little 1-2kg just fork the $20-$30 to keep yourself out of hotwater & who wants to have a fire onboard & an FX that does nothing!

So I get a NEW fire extinguisher every 6 month !?! As the are in the "open" !?!?!?

Just another Nonsense to the list.

I'm sure you could save the fire part of the insurance and see what they say about having a qualified fireman on board.

Cheers
