Hi guys & gals

That time of year again - there's a mad bunch of kayakers about to descend onto the Arakoon Gaol Camp Ground this weekend for up to 9 days ............ mayhem will follow!!! This is the 3rd year that we've gathered there & so far only the 1 marlin has been caught (by HobiePaulo) during our week long stay.

If you haven't read of his epic marlin catch yet - you are in for the ride of a lifetime!! It was so good it was printed in one of the deep sea fishing magazines also!! Others have caught marlin there before, especially my buddy Grant from Taree ( who is teacher/mentor of everyone up there hoping to catch one) as he has caught many marlin from his yak there, well into double figures by now!

I am aiming at hitting the Macleay in the estuary & finding some shallows & racks & maybe some jacks ....... and want to also have a go at bass fishing too!! Whereby I need some assistance!!!

If anyone has any bassy water spots up & around SWR that they are willing to share with me (PMs welcomed for privacy) I would be forever grateful! I am fairly new to bassing & have signed up for a bass tournament up in the Tweed at the end of March & need all the assistance that I can get to try & catch any! I am taking spinners, grubs, topwater & diving lures, so should have it covered, hopefully, to catch one of the sneaky blighters ........ I think there are spots near Smithtown (between the highway & SWR) but I am not sure if I can get the yak in?

Cheerio & thanks in advance

Roberta

Hi Roberta

Sorry I can't give you any advice about bass spots up there. However, the beaches were okay back in early January. I scored a few nice whiting and bream early morning and just on dusk. Also, if you walk around the beach from the gaol towards SWR, about mid morning, and throw a few lures around, you might find some bonito and frigate mackerel. There were heaps there every day about that time.

I'm looking forward to your reports. I hope the weather is good and you find some bass.

Cheers

Peter

PS I also don't mind if you catch the 60cm+ flattie I dropped off the breakwall one afternoon. :(
