brendong
I have several but can't really say I have a nailed down technique that is dynamite. How and what environment do you work them? I've heard some people say 'slow roll' but I'm not sure what that means, is that just a slow consistent wind back to boat?
The Iceman
That is exactly what a slow roll is A slow consistent wind back to the boat I prefer a more aggresive approach by giving it a couple of quick winds to get the lure down then a couple of quick twitches followed by a pause of up to 5 seconds and repeat the twitches and pauses back to the boat
brendong
Thanks Iceman, I knew you'd be first to respond....I'm thinking over the flats and weedbeds would be the go in about 6 ft of water casting forward of your drift like Sp's and poppers....am I on the right track? I also assume the racks and snags would be good, but I reckon you'd connect to the timber fairly often.... I'm guessing they dive to about 3 to 4 feet? 4lb braid / 8lb leader should do the trick shouldn't it?

Yep you are on the right track 4lb braid / 8lb leader is good for the racks and snags but I prefer surface lures in the racks Over the flats I use 2lb braid / 4lb leader as the SX40s are a bit light to cast and the flats water is very clear at the moment
Daniel Frost
As the Iceman said 4lb leader is the go. Personally I wouldn't bother with heavier on the flats , you will catch heaps more fish on the weed with light leader ,try a Jackal chubby shallow or atomic do some good cheaper shallow divers with a fat body that cast well , a slightly heavier lure will help get you the extra distance and on the flats I think it gives you a massive advantage to have a reallllly long cast , as to not spook the fish , especially when the water is clear . The Iceman
Yep shallow chubbies are my favorite and with atomics I think the shallow is too shallow and prefer the medium

frangkie
go for the atomics. cheaper and better than the ecogears in my opinion. slow roll definately works if bream are the target. atomics and chubbies work so well cause they swim well on a super slow retrieve. hope you do well. cheers alex
chris268
would 6lb fireline with 10lb fluro be too heavy when using an SX40? i wouldn't mind going down to 4lb fireline and 6lb braid but im concerned if a flatty takes the lure then he'll cut through the fluro.
