Ken A
I was wondering who still uses fly clips these days when fishing small hard body & soft plastics for Bream. These days I tend to use a loop knot on HB's & a Ken A bastardisation of a knot for jigs when Breaming. I do have some clips left but I only use them when targetting flathead. Anyhow which do you use when fishing for BREAM ?
Guest Jocool
I started of using a clip, but then used the loop knot. I never had a prob with the clip, its just that I learnt the knot and have used it since! Beauty of clips is, you dont shorten your leader each time you change lures or jigs. Guest Jocool
Hey Dave. A while ago there was talk of Mustad releasing a SS version of their clip, is that what you got? What brand are the Cabelas ones?
Narralakes
I usually use Fly snaps for fishing anything I know is not going to be too big and nasty. I have lost a couple of fish on snaps because the snap has busted, more to me being lazy and not changing them after each session or so. But due to the quickness of them in change over, they are the go for smaller fish. Like to see how fast you tie a loop knot Andrew, I can change over with a snap in about 2 secs I reckon. Does everyone use the Lefty loopknot? If not, what versions of the loop knot do you use? Lefty's is a great knot, but takes about 20 - 30 seconds to tie, for me anyhow. Ken A
Loops are slower for sure but I had a fast snap or 2 fail on me so I'm a bit suss for that reason also. I use a loop similar to a Lefty & it works fine for me. I honestly can't see why speed is an issue anyhow. We are talking a few seconds here
The Iceman
I like fly clips for ease of changing SPs but only the s/s ones like no knot fas snaps At a dollar each here they are a bit too expensive and I can only find XL where I prefer L Ill take some off your hands if you have too many thanx Dave
Jaso
Are fly clips the same as the tiny snap clips (or snap swivels that don't have the actual swivel bit)? I tried them on my hardbodies (size 1 and 2) but found that they are unbalanced and made it seem like my lures were detuned (they would swim to one side). So I do the loop knot - but let me just say it took a while to practice. Needs to be followed to the letter otherwise the loop closes as the knot tightens. Guest bluecod
Jaso, These are the clips they're talking about
granpop
I have been using fly clips for about 2 years now for both SPs and HBs. However, in the last three months I have had HBs escape from the clip, I now use a loop knot for HBs. I agree on the ridiculous price in Oz and buy them from BassPro (30 for about $US5.00 (pack in a few HBs and SPs until I have reached a $12 postage limit. Narralakes
The only reason I see time an issue Ken is when there is a hot bite or bust up around and instead of spending time, albeit a few seconds, tying a loop knot, a clip is handy, although they are not as reliable as a good Leftys. troutboy
I use clips of one description or another for all my lure fishing as i constantly change lures and dont want to shorten my leader unnecessarily.I have used them for about 3 years now and have yet to have one fail. Ken A
Interesting results so far I wonder how it will go this week when e get a few more votes in? I have to say I'm surprised at how popular clips are.
Matt
Loop knots for me, had too many clips open up on me in the past. I still use them occasionally but most of the time I will use a loop knot. Cheers Windy
Guest fishrunner
Loop knots for me!, I believe it gives a better presentation on smaller sp's, it also helps my confidence in believing what I'm presenting is giving good action and appearance. Sometimes I think I'm the only one believing though
Guest Jewel
Its all about belief!!! Clips over 4kg (other than bream gear) Knots on the light stuff.
