damobows
Hi people, I'm heading to fishing "NIRVANA" in a few weeks - AKA Lord Howe Island and I need a stick to use from the stones. I would say I will maybe use this stick once or twice a year maybe so I'm looking for a very very reasonably priced rod to get me through and hopefully hold up to the rigors of 8 days on the Lord Howe stones. Any recomendations would be appreciated it will be matched with a Saragosa 14000 60lb-80lb braid. Cheers Damo
SZ1
Lord Howe just screams keg sizes kings, travelly on roids and yellow fin barrels, persoanlyl i havce never been there my self but it is definately one the place to go, depending on the type of fishing you plan to do the stick need to be capable of stopping those beast they have there, if throwing lure i would seriously consider maybe a popper rod you can look at a Shimano GT Special (rrp$500) but if you look around you may be able to pick up a second hand one farily cheap or can look in a monster mesh popping rod which can be had for under $300 brand new. If live baiting from the rocks i would have no idea what type of rod to use. look forward to your report Cheers, Sz1
sulla
Lord howe from all reports is great for lbg heared there might be even a lbg guide service running i read somwhere who will take you to the spots but not sure if it was lord howe maybe worth looking in to. fishing wise lordhow is live bating which is o/h reels and rod to suit however you can still live bait with a spinn reel por lure fishing . If you spinning with metals while chasing tuna you will need to wind very fast as you dont have a high speed reel if you just popper fishing not an issuse. Main decsion you will have to make rod wise is are you spinning metals or poppers as very few rods do both as popper rods dont tend to cast 65 or 85 grams well . if spinning the best budget rod is the penn big game surf 10 foot lots of mates use them and land blues and spanards to 20 kg no probs the daiwa 80 tn is a good rod as well for this as for poppers the shimano gt is the entry level popper rod it throws 100 gr - 250 poppers and as a starter popper rod cant go wrong i know the price looks steep but trust me most good popping rods cost 900+ As for me personaly i do live bait occasionay but tend to spin and popper fish spin for tuna popper for Gt or kings and have differnt rods for each . hope that helps a bit
damobows
Hi Guys, Will be doing a bit of both, mainly live baiting but will be throwing a few metals and poppers. Need something that will suffice as a hybrid of sorts, I don't do that much from the stones so I just need something thats going to be good enough to get me through - don't want to spend a heap though as I've just got a 2010 s605 Jigwrex for the trip as thats what we'll be doing the most of.
