sulla
On sunday after my son and his friends rugby game as we close to a beach so decied to take them for a fish. My son over the last few years is getting quite profficent at 10 years old and he has a wilson bream rod paired with a okuma avenger for the cost the reel was great to use espicaly for bream however on sunday he hooked somthing either flat head or tailor as they were heaps of hardyheads around being chased. Anway mid way through trying to land the fish the the stem on the reel broke. i had considered getting an okuma epix the high spin in size 60 or 80 for the beach as dont like my good spinners near the sand and they not to expensive however after seeing what material is used in the stem definalty would not use it for decent tailor etc. my daughter will still use hers for bream as shes younger and still plays in the sand rather fishes so new reel for easter for him looking at the sedona or symetre. i was thinking about post pics for anybody interested to see what the material they use in the stem still think its an ok reel for small kids catch bream but as for bigger fish defiantly not the epix stem appears to be made of the same material so im defianlty going to keep clear. arpie
Hi Sulla I repaired the stem on a broken reel once, by cutting about 4 pieces of stiff wire & placing them around the stem & then binding/winding them on with finer wire. I then mixed up a strong batch of araldyte & lathered it all over the original wire & the binding. Allow it to set for a week! The reel is still in use today.
