anthony1
Just wanted to share this photo of a tail of a Marlin washed up on Avoca Beach It was about 5ft long Must have been sharked i'm guessing. Can anyone confirm that it is a Marlin and possibly which type.

finin
Anth, shame its on the beach and not swimming around on the end of your line!. To me it looks like a little blue possibly around 70-80 kg. Its a shame the pec fins have been chomped off as it would tell you what marlin it is. Im only going by the remanents of the last three stripes that can be seen near the tail. They look uniform in size so it points to a blue.Blacks have no stripe, blues have uniform stripes and stripeys have 2 different stripe sizes. But im no expert and this is my expert opinion! Just wondering was there a tag anywhere near whats left of the dorsal fin on either side? Edited April 1, 2010 by finin

crunch
Couldn't have been sharked.... There will only be sharks around at Avoca if they sink the ship. There's none there now.
Evets
I havent seen a marlin sharked like that before. The ones Ive seen have more than just the head missing. Seems strange that the shark only wanted the bony head and none of the flesh. Come to think of it, the missing bit is a bit too straight for a shark bite I reckon. Could have been caught by someone who only wanted the head/bill as a trophy. Evets

Guest Big-Banana
Looks like a capture candidate, weighed on the gantry and dumped. A waste if that is the case.
