arpie
Hi all I headed out in the yak from The Keys yesterday to catch the last of the out tide & was getting heaps of surface hits with sammys, but they just couldn't find the hooks! Some of the takes were quite fierce & splashy, but no hookups! It was still fun tho. I could see some really lively topwater action - with the fish hooning around just mms below the surface & it came to the yak just as I was removing the lure from the water & made a last minute lunge at the lure, but missed it! FInally, as I was pedalling away with the lure behind me 'jigging it quickly on the surface' I had a good hookup! Hmmm this is no bream, I thought! Serious head shakes & taking line - it took a couple of minutes to get it to the yak & as I was just about to net it, the big tailor spat the hook! :ranting2: Seriously annoyed!!! Ah well, just as well I hadn't planned on fish for dinner! I just 'played around' after that & was surprised when I heard my name called out! I turned around but couldn't make out who it was & didn't recognise the boat - until it got closer & realised it was Max Frost (Forster Fishing Carnival Organiser)& his son Dan 'Bubba' Frost!! They were in Dan's 'old' boat which was cunningly disguised as a mobile stereo!! Since upgrading to his Skeeter, the tinny was up for sale. Even tho I didn't land any fish, I still had fun out on the water. Cheerio Roberta
Jewhunter
Shame about the missed hookups' Roberta. Sounds like you found plenty of fish though. I bet that big tailor put a bend in the rod! Good to see Bubba & Max having a fish. I bet Bubba was having skeeter withdrawels! Were they catching any fish? Cheers, Grant.
arpie
Hi Grant - Bubba said he had caught some nice bream (put back) and kept a couple of whiting for dinner!! Just back from another outing - for ZIP again!!! I've lost my mojo!! Everyone has been saying the same thing this weekend, tho! I had a couple of hits & was hooked up momentarily ..... not sure what to ...... but it was still a nice day on the water! In the main lake, sao had the last of the out tide & start of the in ...... not my favourite conditions!! I think Max was having Skeeter withdrawals!! I tried to get him out in the yak & he said it just wasn't fast enough!!! A bit more drizzle again today - nothing too bad tho! Cheerio Roberta I am meeting up with fellow Fishraider Rich tomorrow, to take him out in one of my kayaks & hopefully get him into some fish with the topwater lures/sammy, or at the very least, show him how I use one! Will go to The Keys, purely because I was getting lots of hits there yesterday, with less today in the main lake. Fingers crossed!!!
