smith
I need some advice. I found a place not far from where I live where fresh water weed was growing in a stormwater channel. I thought I had struck gold as weed is in such short supply at the moment. Sunday I headed off down to Hunters Hill with my son & met up with Smitty,Stewy & a friend of theirs. I burlied up & we started to get downs straight away, but what I found was that this weed is more tougher & harder to get off the hook & the blackies were just grabbing the tail & going for a run & then releasing it after awhile they weren't interested in it at all even after shorting the tail to try & get a hook up. I'm not sure whether they just went off the bite or it was the weed & the way it was presented. Has anyone else had this problem using fresh water weed which is tougher than the salt water weed & is there a way around it. I live out in the western suburbs of sydney & its a fair hike down to any beach to try & find salt water weed. I was using Kelso weed before but last time I checked which was at Easter there was none in the creek. Scrubby
rickster
Hi Paul, Sometimes the fresh water weed can be too strong if it's growing in a canal where the water runs. This weed is usually very silky and not many "strands" to it. Only way to possible get the fish to take it better is thinner and shorter baits. Driving past a couple of creeks in the west I've seen weed but not sure of the quality etc. Ring or PM if you want to know the locations. BTW, we fished that Hunters Hill spot on Saturday for 9 fish each but they were never really "on". We did let all the fish go and i reckon that sometimes it can spook the area for a couple of days.
