james1990
hi guys, i'm looking at getting a new set of 15 & 24kg rollered game rods, i dont really have a budget and i want the best that i can get (value for money anyway), i am also considering having my rods custom made. what components make a good game rod? Aftco roller guides or Alps roller guides? which is better? is there anything else that you prefer? thanks all, James
Red
James, go the standard AFTCO's. They are more than good for the task. No need to go oversize (Heavy Duty) on 15-24kg sticks as they will make your rods heavy and sloppy. Cheers Red
GregL
G'day James As Red said, the aftco standards will be fine on a 24kg stick. At the moment I run a set of Miller 24kg and 15kg sticks for Sydney fishing. They are one of the better but do take ages to come. Mine took over 12 months as blanks were hard to sorce at the time.... Very expensive and double most off the shelf rods..... Unless your gamefishing most of the time I personally think off the shelf are fine. The Daiwa Oceano series and the shimano tiagras of rollered rods are great value and then theres semi custom from people like Fisherman but expect to pay over 2 gorillas each! Guest Big-Banana
Do your homework with customs and you'll pay no more than you would for T Curves.
