Who Bit Me?

so i'm fishing whale beach on tuesday

throwing some lures from the stones at sunrise for about 2hrs

not much about, only got one 50cm tailor on the third cast and that was it

some dudes had live yakkas and didn't even get a hit

when i go to pack up i noticed my lure has been ruffed up a bit

upon closer inspection it looks like a bite mark! but i never felt a thing!? and i'm fishing braid with about 1.5m leader

right above the hook too, makes so little sense! i caught the tailor on the back treble..

i was thinking maybe kingy? or salmon? any ideas?

Considering you had only 1 hit, the big tailor you got may well have caused the damage but missed the middle treble and instead connected with the back treble.

Don't think kings could cause damage like that, i thought they had no teeth at all.

@monch: i tried to match the tailors mouth to the bite, it's mouth was a fair bit narrower. guess it could be though, with the jaws extending on the strike

@hottyscotty: serious? this happens lots with trebles? i'll look at gettin some singles to try i suppose

@GregL: never thought of the treble swing, sounds plausible

a lot of my large lures bought off the shelf with treble hooks causes it to scratch the body of the lure as you're casting or when it lands in the water.

if you run the hook around the lure, you'll see the arc matches the path of the swinging hook. as what Greg said
