What Line

Recommended Posts

I just got a few new outfits and now need to spool them up. so the question is what line to use. 1 type of combo is going to be used for trolling for pelagics in the harbour, and 1 of the other types of combos is a 3-6kg flick stick for chasing harbour salmon and tailor. i dont really need to know what line class but what brands. I use fireline for my bream fishing and was leaning towards that but i would'nt mind trying squidgy braid.

so what are your thoughs

thanks in advance

im more of a fireline man myself although i did spool up my new baitcaster with squidgy braid and i love it. very thin diameter for the weight class of the line. no problems yet

a while a go i spooled one of my threalines and received alot of spool tangles :mad3: that was replaced pretty quickly.

has anyone given that fireline XDS a decent work out? i'de be interested to hear what you guys have to say. i also need a few new spools on threadlines

Hi Guys

I use squidgy braid on all my reels and I love it as well. Because its so soft you get a few tip wraps every now and then, but I can put up with those because it is so supple and direct to your lure ( no curly memeory sections).

Yep Ive had a couple of fluff ups but show me a brand of braid that doesnt get em.

I was a long time user of standard 6lb and 4lb Fireline but have recently switched to 8lb Fireline XDS. Couldn't be happier. There seems to have been a recent quality control issue with the standard Fireline in light gauges, but I also grew tired of wind knots and line fraying (a real problem if you fish racks or rough rocks). The XDS is much rounder, holds a knot, is much slower to fray, doesn't throw loops when new, and gives great line lay on the spool. Interestingly, we seem to be the only country where you can buy 8lb XDS (it's not even listed on the Berkley website!). I would stay away from softer "true" braids on a threadline, fused lines with a bit of stiffness are needed to avoid wind knots.

Cheers
