Piss'n'Broke
Greg hit the water late wednesday night (midnight) chasing squid and the kings early morning. Within a few hours he had enough squid for a good session. So hitting the usual yakka spot at 5am for some he tried for over 20mins to get some but no luck, despite millions of them around the boat . Ah bugga, but at least he had more than enough squid. So straight into the main harbour to a reliable spot were the kings have been holding. First bait down, tap, tap, tap, bloody peckers then Zzzzzzzzzz, Greg was too slow and ping . First 4 baits down resulted in 1 bustoff, 2 kings, and a sambo . One king (73cm) was kept for lunch and everything else turfed back over the side. Soon after it began shutting down, so Greg fell back into mid-harbour as the wind had started roaring up the harbour. Hit a final spot with only peckers ripping apart his squid. So called it a day and got home just after the morning peak hour. It was interesting to note that all the kings and salmon were on the chew at first light (530-6am), and within a hour or 2 (730-8am) they had shut down. So its still a early morning game at the moment, as once the sun is high enough they are going off the bite. Dan
zen801
Hi Dan, Yeah mate i agree early morning is the go as once the sun is up they are hard work. In MH you can burly them up once the sun is up but only rarly can you tempt then to strike. I have beem having a lot of success during sunset with the kings. Once the sun starts setting and even into the first part of full darkness they have been biting very well on floating baits. One area in general has provided kings every time recently at sunset. Last night got a good one on a floating yakka fillet. I was with my daughter and she couldnt believe how the rod went off. I had her on the torch and net and on her second attemp she netted it. Time was 6:30pm. So it seems first and last light ATM is the time to target them. I might try again this arvo/evening. See ya out there.
