Nothing As Always Botany Bay

Headed out 9am to the bait grounds for some yakkas and hopefully find a few kings today while the water is still quiet warm at 22.4C. The day was just perfect with just a slight W breeze.

Found yakkas no problem with some bigins as well. Got 12 in less than 20 mins. Then headed straight out to the reefs outside Kurnel and out around in front of Bate Bay. Trolled lures on the way out for zilch. Hardly any drift so we never achored dropped down a few livies. Both livies down foe a good 20 mins for no hits until one was getting hit by a large squid which we brought close to the boat so out came the jig and wammo hooked a solid kilo squid. We stayed out there and moved around quiet abit looking for some returns but nothing seemed to want to touch the baits. We headed back inside and we come across 2 seals just floating on there backs getting a suntan...... :biggrin2: and a pod of dolphins so we figured why it was quiet today. As we got close to the drums we saw the water bubbling and it was Frigate mackrel chomping on little baitfish so out came the 10gr gillies white bait lure and bang a frigate gulped it and in the boat for bait on the next trip out. School disappeared so we just decided to call it a day.

Not sure about this place any more it seem to be so productive many years ago but now I'm not so sure. Those protesters that don't seem to want that navy ship sunk up the coast off Avoca why don't they sink the bloody thing just off Maroubra so there would be some life in fishing down this neck of the woods. I rekon you won't get fishos protesting that down here. We need something!!

Tight Lines!!!

Good point about the boat. Botany bay has been very hot and cold last six weeks. In the past when the dredging was happening the bay would be on fire.

Today you must move around until you find them.IMO I think the dredging and DESAL plant are effecting the bay. The lower reaches near Towra

are a better bet but again you must keep moving. I have found a lot of throw backs last three trips and have not posted as a result.

Top idea lest sink it just out from the Bay in 5o metre on the sand and then another one a say 1km north and one south we need some good structure out there, Fisheries need to stop stuffing around, and then we might see a few better Snapper calling Botany Bay Home we pay all this money out I think you are on the right track mate.

Thats funny.... we found the it to be the opposite. while they were dredging we struggled but since they stopped i think things have improved. today fished fairly well for us. We had crap leftovers for bait and still managed a good bag of bream and trevs. some aroung yarra bay and some around towra. Didnt bother trying for kings though....too lazy today.

But fishing is like that isn't it. You can get 2 blokes fishing beside each other in the same boat and one cleans up and the other doesn't get a bite. The good thing about fishing is there is always another day.

Hi Scott glad you think it's a good idea. We realy need something in the area around Botany heads. The Bay has been very poor this year and with the works they have been doing has realy taken it's toll on the fishing. I could say say everytime I have gone out this season the fish have been all undersize snapper, bream and kingfish. We need to start up a petition in maybe luring the HMAS Adelaide to the area around our beloved Botany Bay and the Central Coast people won't have to protest about it anymore. South Sydney Council should request to bring it here. We definately need something in this area.

Seeya on the water. :1fishing1:
