Tackle Shop In Sydney That Stock Fresh Pillies

I seen occasionally fishos using very fresh pillies (not frozen) wrapped in newspaper, I been to a few tackle stores but only can be the salted and frozen variety. Anyone know where in Sydney, you can buy fresh pillies ?

went to the fish markets last week looking for them and couldn't find any.

I go to the local fish markets and they always have em. Slated pillies are a good option as the salt makes them last heeps longer then normal frozen pillies.

you cant beat the snap frozen variety, the so called fresh pillies are in and out of a few freezers before they get to you.

I agree with Groper. The IQF (individually quick freeze) variety are good. They cost a little more though.

If you have the time buy a 2kg bag (about $10), let them thaw out naturally, then salt them down with rock salt.

Keep your takeaway containers from your local takeaway place and pack your pillies in these (with the salt) . You can usually fit between 6-8 in a takeway pack. This way you always have good bait at hand and you don't end up wasting half a bag of pillies becasue they turn to mush.
