zen801
Hi all, I have a 40hp yammie with the original prop (2005). Its in OK condition but i was wondering will i get more speed, performance if i put on a better quality stainless prop or am i wasting money? Any feedback from people who have done it would be helpful - cheers Mike
cut_loose
I have a 40hp Yamaha ( Normal white prop ) - Estuary Angler package. I was looking at the stainless props from yamaha. Tell ya what they'll want to perform better. You'd be looking at $500 +
a boat
Hi Mike, most SST props all else being equal will offer better performance than an alloy prop. How much and if it is worth it you will not know until you try it and only you can answer is in worth it. First thing first you really should make sure the current prop pitch is right for your engine and then you can go from there. Ideal WOT of your engine wants to be about 5500 so do you have a Tacho? All SST props are about that money, even more for high performance ones. Cheers, Huey.

I rang and spoke to one of your guys the other day about a service on the engine and a few other extras need doing. I guess we can look at the prop issue then. Going to book it in probably july. tuffy
Mike, if it is the original prop I am assuming the size is 11 1/4 x 13. If that is the case, I just bought a stainless prop for my Honda and they are exactly the same as the Yammie props.Mine is 11 1/4 x 13 and suits both Honda & Yammie. I am willing to lend it to you for a short outing to see if it makes any difference to your boat before you invest the bucks. Obviously some conditions will apply re damage etc. I have mine on a 50hp and am revving out to about 6200rpm, so I may have to go to a bigger pitch which means that this prop will be on the market. pm me if you want to go further. Cheers, Russ.
