First Date With Nemo

After waking early yesterday and finding out it was pouring rain i was'nt looking good to go for my first session in the new Yak,had a quick look on a few weather site and decided to hold of till mid morning for a break in the weather.

Ended up on the river at around 8ish and fished till around 11.

It was dead low tide and water looked like a choc milkshake so i did'nt have much faith in nailing a few.

First spot i tried i nailed a few small bream and a few small ep's on the slack of the tide around the Easthils Train Bridge, all caught on Strike pro vibes.

The wind started to pick up and restricted me to only a few areas of the river still managed to nail a few more small bream and also a blackfish on a SX40.

The clouds on the coast were looking very nasty so i called it a day.

Very impressed with the Yak, Shaping up to be a cracker winter in the Georges me thinks....

Nicely done Mick A successful christening of the new girl. The blackie on SX40 would have been a pleasant surprise. Now I want to read about you being towed up and down the river behind an XOS jewy!

Well done Mick great to see your determination to test your new toy. Did the EPs come out the deep hole just downstream from the Easthills railway bridge? I fished there and near the port marker (redpole) on Saturday for a couple of small bream and a number of tentitive bumps...the water was very clear and water temperture was 16 degrees.

Hey mate Yeh the blackie was a bit of a freaky catch, i guess he needed his protein fix

All the fish caught were extremely aggressive when hiting the lure, the blackie took the lure of the surface before i even started to retrieve.

Cant wait to get stuck into the jews mate, Going to give em a good nudge this year!!!!!. Would'nt mind trying out some sinking hard body lures for them this year, see if they fish any better then the plastics do for them

I know the hole your talking about but did'nt manage to pull anything out of it yesterday. On the shore there is a large storm water outlet right in front of the hole and with all this rain that area was a mess.

All that shore line is pretty productive, but i find the fishing there extremely influenced by the tides. You only have a small window time when they show up

What sort of lure you using when you fished there?

I like the small vibes in that area, strike pro 3.5g and Little Max seem to be my go too lures for Ep's in that area.

Mick - I tried TT Blades, MF40s, SP Bugs, SP flick baits, atomic HB and rapala HBs. Last Saturday all the strikes were on the rapala HB cast towards the drains, nothing from the deep hole. I think you right regarding the tides as last Saturday I fished the peak of the tide and the first half hour of the run off for only a couple of small bream, whereas the week before I fished the same location at low tide and the first half hour of the run in with much better success using MF40s and small SP flickbaits.

Nice little effort considering it's your first go in the new yak Mick. There'll be no stopping you now mate you'll finish up as fit as a fiddle too Going on the number of jewfish photos that I've received in sms over the last few months or so from Fisherdoi who often fishes the upper Georges landbased, I'm sure it won't be too long before you get into a few big jew yourself.. Some of the deep divers in the Rappala range as basscatcher made mention of might be well worth a go around the bridges, particulary the deep divers that have a chesty jack the lad type action... I reckon the pylons around Alfords Pt bridge might be worth a bit of a look in the late afternoons too..If there happen to be jew around the pylons I reckon some of the rapallas would have all the action needed to liven up a big solitary jew pretty much sewn up....
