On Strike
Hi All, Heading down to Euc during the week but haven't fished it before. I'd like to fly fish the river mouth but are not sure where to approach it from. Can anyone advice me on where to get to it from. The google maps look a bit old and the lake looks a bit full so I gather there will be more river than on google earth. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Paul On Strike. TANKN
Hi mate, was in jyndabyne for a long weekend last weekend. eucumbene despite how big it is is under 30% capacity. might be best at jyndabyne. casting off the banks as the fish seemed to be close in. we caught a few trolling to same as most fishing techniques dark conditions dark lures - bright day bright lures. our best perfoming lure was a little 13g tassie devil with silver striped top and yellow belly. and 20g black tassies with yellow wings. spoke to a local fly fisherman too said that if the barometer drops so do the fish and they are less likely to feed. they also hang in the leigh of the bay or island if its windy. they were thick on our fishfinder but not interested. but when it rains the fish line up at the river mouths waiting for it to flow so they can get up stream to reproduce. good luck. renni Hi All, Heading down to Euc during the week but haven't fished it before. Matt
Eucumbene is down around 21.5% at the moment and still dropping and with the amount of rain they have had up there recently it will be a veritable mud bath. But, if you are willing to do some mud bashing then it can be worth while. I would head in at Providence Portal and work up from there, it is basically a river in that area with the low levels any way. Alternatively before the closure of the season it could be worth going up past the lake and working down from the road bridge on the Eucumbene (near Kiandra), there are also some other tracks in but I wouldn't want to comment on their condition with the rain. I don't agree though that the trout hang in the lee of islands/headlands etc when its blowing, some of the best fishing is in the teeth of the wind as the Trout cruise the wave swept shore picking up food being washed out from the wave action. Insects and other sub surface food stuff also get pushed into the wind swept shores. Just a pain in the proverbial casting into it! Hope that helps a bit.
