Prev
I went down to Clifton Gardens last week at night with a mate. We were just packing up with one rod left in the water with a pillie on a single hook. The rod bends and the 20lb line starts peeling. Both of us tried to get line back. Pump and wind, pump and wind, but nothing worked. After a few mins the 240yard spool was empty and the line snapped at the swivel. Whatever it was , it just kept running and couldn't turn it. He probably recovered all his line to the swivel,

zen801
This time of year most likely a shark. I lost a big jew in MH once to a 100lb swivel snapping. I had his first run turned and was struggling to bring him back when on his second run he got me wrapped on a mooring. I had him on for awhile stuck down deeo at 70ft when i decided to try and just pull him up. I got him close to the top when it snapped. My 55lb braid was worn and the mono held (assume) but all i got back was the braid to the end of the swivel circle. First and only time that has happenned as now dont endlessly recycle swivels. It was old and stuffed but i held pretty good. Mike

PPSGT
Not that I've every caught a king on chicken, but the rats really seem to like it. I lost three last time i went while fishing for yakkas on unweighted chicken on as size 12 hook 4lb line didnt last long, but just long enough to cut into my fingers before it snapped like a rifle shot. The long run described does sound like a ray (especially if you bait was close to the bottom)- it probably didnt even know it was hooked, I be suprised if a king with 200 metres of line wouldnt be able to find something to wrap it around and if your drag was at 1/3 of 20lbs it wouldnt have stamina to pull 200+ metres in one run a shark would bite through or cut the line through on its skin when you put pressure on it, but a ray will quite happily pull you around until it gets bored then sucks itself to the bottom and goes to sleep Jason
Prev
Penguin. After it snapped off I got all my line back. I thought it may have been a ray but it didn't suck into the sand. Better luck next time I reckon.
