locodave
Hi Guys, I have these lights: http://www.whitworths.com.au/main_itemdetail.asp?cat=138&item=90209&intAbsolutePage=1 I'm new to boating, but they have holes underneath. I thought they would be sealed. But reading I read that if you place them horizontally, they will keep water out. How exactly does this work? I went to change the bublb the other day and realised one was like in NEW condition, while the other had rusted away. So i want to know what is the best way to keep water out? Is LED better? Heard they are sealed? What is the best way to wire them though? is it easier to buy LEDs with the wireing plug? How do you run these through the trailer? Does the end of the LED lights come off so you feed the cable through? Geoff
Hi Guys, How exactly does this work? There would be some scientific name for it but it works on the same principle as taking an empty glass , inverting it & placing it in a container of water. The water will only enter a few mm befor the air pressure inside the glass is equal to the water pressure & as such does not progress any further. If one light is OK then the assembly is air tight. If there is a small hole (crack) in the light then then the air can escape allowing the water to enter & corrode the internals. Changing to LED will not improve the situation if there is a crack in the lens/ housing. There is another light available which I will post seperatly Geoff
Geoff
In reference to my previous post these light have ordinary globes , not LED & are 100% sealed. http://www.biasboating.com.au/p-2021-submers-a-lite-pair-trailer-lights.aspx I've got them on my trailer which is imersed well below the water each time I launch & retreive. Other than 1 blown globe have remained water tight & free of corrosion since purchase 7 years ago. Geoff Edited July 14, 2010 by Geoff

Yarraone
I solved my issue with the lights by putting mine on a small vertical angle, or pole so they are just above the water line when I launch her.. This way I will keep the water out and save $$$ for all the other lights available..My lights are bulbs and are $20 each.. If you would like to see some pics PM me and i will post them
