arpie
Hi all I got out for a fish last weekend before the big blow & before heading to Port Macq for Keith's treatment ..... & tried your float, Rick ...... and even tho i could see blackies, they weren't eating much! I did manage to catch one, tho, and was pleased to see about 5/6 of his big mates come out with him ..... but couldn't convert THEM into a catch! The one I DID catch has now been converted into Smoked Fish Pie! Very nice float too, BTW! It is so light to cast, I've had to change my casting style!! My other floats are old clunkers compared to yours!! Many thanks - hope to give it a better test very soon! Maybe tomorrow Cheerio Roberta

james7
I hope the next time you use the float Roberta it spends more time under the water! Anyway, I bet your smoked fish pie was a winner! Cheers Peter
rickster
Hi Roberta, congratulations, at least you,ve christened it. Your added to the list of raiders that have tried the floats and got fish: Stewy Scrubby Vladimir Woodchuck R C 1 DGF Tide'n knots Slam 354 plus a few others i've given them away to. They are obviously lighter than you're used to but they do cast well with the aluminium stem and when weighted finely are very easy for fish to take under. Enjoy. arpie
All going well, I'll get out again tomorrow for a try for some blackies! I forgot to say that I actually got busted off by 2 blackies (one was avery nice fish) but they don't count if you don't land them! And I DID find some very nice weed yesterday!! nudge nudge Will test it tomorrow!! Cheerio Roberta
arpie
Hi All Well, a nice & sunny day, even tho it was with a brisk southerly, so I headed out to catch some blackies again - even tho it as at the bottom of the tide & I usually prefer the last of the in & start of the out! Couldn't catch a cold before the tide turned ...... was getting blown around everywhere & on the way back to base, not long after the tide turned, I chucked Rickster's float towards the edge of a wash board & almost immediately, it went down & I tightened up onto a nice fish!! It dived under the yak a few times and put up a good fight in the shallow water, trying to rub the hook off by rolling in the weed & mud, but I got the net to it before it could get off! It went 35cm. I dropped the next one - shame, as it felt quite a nice weight! I'd only lifted the rod tip when the float went down, instead of Jerking it, to set the hook! Then another positive down & I struck! Another nice fat fish!! it went 35cm too! The new weed was working a treat!! I had to get the float as close to the washboard as possible, but the wind was blowing opposite to the flow & made it difficult to do accurate throws! I hooked a couple of smaller fish & let them go. Then I dropped another nice one!! I thought I 'had him' but as I 'encouraged' him away from the wash board, he made a desperate last lunge & gained his freedom! I'd been out for a couple of hours & if I didn't get another fish SOON, I'd be calling it quits. Luckily, the float bobbed down again almost immediately & I was rewarded with my third & final fish for the day ...... about 32cm. All up, a good session - I was pleased to 'blood' Rickster's float properly & am doing better casts, too! I've got it weighted so that only the red tip is showing, so when there is a bit of rough water, it is tricky to see whether it is a a 'down' or just the wave! Really pleased to get some fish & will most likely fillet & skin them tomorrow & freeze them, already crumbed, as we still have 2 smoked fish pies in the freezer already .... and eating some tonight! That way, Keith won't get sick of eating the same styled dish every time! And he does enjoy his fish. Not sure when I may get out again - we'll see what happens over the next few days. Cheerio for now Roberta
