Edn
hey guys, I'm nearing the end of building a 25ft yacht out of ply and fiberglass. about to start fiber glassing in the next couple of weeks. has anyone used Qcell much? im going to put 3 coats of matt and resin on the entire thing to waterproof it and stiffen in up a bit. but wondering what i should apply on top of it all to give it that sleek gel coat look. hopefully something cheap.. any help would be awesome. Fester
You will need to Flow coat over the top, it gives the smooth finnish, its two parts, resin and hardener, fibreglass material services at Sevenhills are cheap and also very helpful with advice. you can tint it to give desired colour as well. davebrewer
You should know that polyester resin has very ordinary bonding properties with timber, the modern system uses epoxy to ensure a permanent waterproof composite hull, you then apply a fairing coat or 2 of thickened epoxy and sand smooth.A finishing system follows this, primer, undercoats and single or 2-pack marine paint.http://www.westsystem.com/ss/use-guides/
