fishmaniac
I headed out on thursday morning with a mate of mine after telling him about the Sydney salmon fishing. He usually fishes for bream, whiting and flathead on soft plastics but was keen to give the salmon a crack. We headed out for a quick session before work and were greeted by an enthusiastic school of salmon. Within the two hours of fishing we landed a total of 10 salmon, 4 bonito and two trevally. We dropped a heap of other salmon as well! Today we headed out in hope of some big boils. The action was pretty crap (sounds like saturday was the better day) and the number of boats made things very difficult. As soon as a school would boil it was surrounded by heaps of boats making them go down again. To any newbies out there, run parrallel to the school as roaring in front of them with a 150hp+ is not the best option for you or other fishers! I managed a really nice fish nonetheless which was a new salmon PB (i think as i have not really measured my others) at 66cm. A spectuacular sight of nature was a humpback whale which did a full breach in front of the boat. I had the camera on hand to snap this shot! As always, all salmon were revived and gently released to fight another day! Andrew Edited September 12, 2010 by fishmaniac
erroll
Andrew, I saw them going nuts yesterday afternoon about 4pm right on north head. The emormous school of birds were a dead giveaway. very good fun indeed on the light rod. Cheers erroll

Langa
Great fish and fantastic shot of the whale with the sun, is it any wonder people would risk their lives on a leaky boat to come and live here!
Cass
FishManiac, where you just off North head, two of you on a boat with your electric? I was fishing off the rocks at Old Mans Hat. By the looks of it, if it was you, you guys were stalking the fish heaps well until some loser came right through the centre of them. made them dive and killed the action from the stones for me too. I got a few bonnies aswell. If it was you, you probably heard me yelling at the other blokes lol.

fishmaniac
Yea that was us with the electric. I remember that incident very well. My mate and I were commenting on how you guys would be spewing as not only did that bloke make the school sound, they pushed them out from the rocks!!! The boat is a Quintrex 450 Topender. Its a really nice little rig perfect for sportsfishing!

Well done on ya PB, how much fun are they when they're on the boil Great report and fantastic piccies- love the shot of the whale... I had one 3 weeks ago burst up around 10m from the 20 foot boat I was on and I nearly fell overboard, lol- I was fumbling around my pockets for my camera to try and get a piccie... she swam under the boat and disappeared. Top stuff mate... Tight lines Anthony

StunnedMullet
Well done mate! Awesome shot of the whale too. Pity about the other guys in the boat- it could be that they were just ignorant of what they were doing. They should read fishraider more!!
