Timmy76
G'day Raiders, Been a while since my last visit here! Went fishing around Lion Island last Saturday and lost sand anchor. Being new at boating, I knew I should not have dropped anchor knowing there would be reef/rocks below .... Was wondering what anchor I should be looking around to buy best for my 4.25m tinne? The one I had was a pretty basic standard sand anchor. Not sure if there is a better anchor that those using normal 4.25m tinnies like mine? Hope to hear some ideas from you. Regards! PS - only caught a 45cm tailor and around 1.3m gummy shark (thrown back of course)
jordan.widz
you could always try a reef pic, hard to set sometimes though. or if you want to spend a bit more money you could buy a sarca anchor. these are easy to retrieve from the reef because you just drive forward and the shackel pulls the anchor out forwards. cheers, Prawn Star
chrisg
Timmy You should look at carrying both a reef and a sand anchor. You can swap them over using a 'D' shackle. If you really not sure of the bottom throw the reef anchor out first. If you know its dragging you can swap over to the sandy. And yes there's a reef 'foot' that extends out around Lion Island and there are many many sand anchors down there! Sarca anchors and similar work well but still do lock up occasionally and your light tinny may not have the grunt to pull it free....there goes another $100! If you want to wander south at some point soon I have a sand anchor that will suit. Cheers Chris
