rs7447
Hi Guys! I'm selling my current 4.3m Tinny for something bigger. Looking at getting a 2006 Quintrex 540 Freedom Sport. Just a question...The boat has 270hours, 115hp Mercury 4 stroke EFI...is this deemed high hours? Other boats on Boatsales etc have lower hours...but they are mainly if all 2 stroke! Getting a pretty good price i think...comes with everything but worried about the resale later on due to the hours. Just wanna get some insight from the boating guru's as its a big purchase! Regards. a boat
Hi Guys! I'm selling my current 4.3m Tinny for something bigger. Looking at getting a 2006 Quintrex 540 Freedom Sport. Hi, that is not high hours if it has been maintained and flushed after use in salt water. I would go for a water test to make sure you like the performance and it will have the HP to do what you want to do. As I say to alot of people if buying second hand get a service done after you buy it and then you know it is done and you can start your own service routine. How much do they want for it? Cheers, Huey.

That was the model I was after last year, but I had to settle to something smaller because of the $$$. 270 Hours are not too much, if serviced well. Check for Galvanic corrosion around accessories (Rod holder, bimini holder, buttons) everywhere some metal (screws) comes in contact with the hull. And see if the paint is flaking away. The more flaking, the less the salt was probably washed off. I´ve also noticed that if people dont take care of the boat, this is reflected by the poor condition of the trailer. So have a look at the trailer and check its condition. Be careful about spots that have been sprayed recently on the trailer. And last but not least, ask a friend to make them an offer of 2000$ less then yours, it puts your offer in a different perspective :-)
rs7447
Thanks for the prompt replies! Yeah its a mates boat, he just serviced it and looks after it. I've been on the boat, and it can handle offshore alright which is what i want. The price is $26500 and comes with spare prop, and all the covers/gear, 2 epirbs etc. The 4 stroke 115hp is so quiet and good on fuel so its alright. Price seem alright? Considering size of boat and 4 stroke engine. Sweeeeeeeet. Hope to find a similar offer in 2 years when is allowing me and the local GFC is over
steven6411
That is a good price. and the 115hp is max power(weight) for that model. I have the same model in the half cabin(spirit) with a 100hp 4stroke yamaha. i cant fault it in any way. The hours are a lot more than mine but thats because i dont get out often enough. As long as it's serviced there shouldn't be a problem. Just happy fishing

Yeah im thinking the size is good and its comfortable plus the 4 stroke should last a long time. I was thinking of a 4.8-5metre runabout boat but might not be happy with the space so gonna pay extra for the comfort i.e bowrider. Im thinking the price is pretty good...hope you get a similar size later on, by then prices should drop a little.

I opted for the sport due to the bowrider. How often do you fill up the petty..and is it ok to just use regular 92oct unleaded? Im going from 30hp 2 stroke to 115hp 4 stroke lol so its gonna hit the pocket harder im thinking...
steven6411
You have to use regular unleaded in it. there not made to take Ethenol based fuels yet. It is very economic as well, especially when slow speed trolling, and no fuems. With a young family that was the main reason i got the 4stroke. I do the run down Pittwater then either outside or up the Hawksbury. depending how far out i go i get two to three trips from a tank. Thats to be safe and not run out of fuel 3km out. Hope this has been some help. CHEERS Steven
dunc333
just be careful with the regular unleaded as most now have 10%ethonal in it be safe and use 95octane unleaded and you get better fuel ecommony and have piece of mind you not putting ethonal into the tank. and it keeps your injectors nice and clean cheers dunc333. cameldownunder
Like the others said, dont get the Fuel with ethanol. Is seems it corrodes the plasic tubes. In regards to consumption, I think it´s not going to hit you that hard. If you find the "soft spot" it should be quite economical. One day out, about 30Km crusing around, 5H of engine and I use about 15L of fuel, that is with a Quintrex 475 and a 60HP.
oz_brett
I think you will be impressed with the fuel bill. I went from a 50hp 2 stroke on a 475 stacer to a 150hp 4 stroke on 6mtr boat, if I fish the bay as I did in the small boat the fuel bill is the same if not better only you have the option to go further in the bigger boat. I used to fish around botany bay on 20 - 25 liters now I can fish the peak for 30 liters. as for the hours on the motor not a problem! its a waste seeing boats not being used I average 100 hours a year on my motor. Keep in mind you service every year or 100 hours, check the price of a service divide that by your hours to find what it cost to service per hour, Mine cost more in service then it does fuel = $7 per hour for engine servicing Brett Edited September 23, 2010 by oz_brett
