North Head Sunday Morning

Hi all,

Had my first trip out in my new boat on Sunday morning. What a cracking morning it was too! Took a couple of mates and one youngster out off North Head, ex Roseville bridge. Between us all, we've got about zero fishing experience, but all keen to learn and see what we can find. We spent the first hour trolling along the walls at North head with various lures for zero. Then we saw a big school of salmon?/Tailor? and chased them for the next couple of hours. Despite their being 'boiling' water and us tossing various lures into the centre of the school, we couldnt get a thing!

There were heaps of boats out there, plus some kayaks. Once we all started chasing the school, it got pretty hectic out there. I learnt a lot about how to handle the boat in traffic, and I hope I didnt get in anyones way. We did have a line crossover with one other guys line at one point, but we sorted it quickly and no harsh words. I read in other posts that the etiquette when fishing a school is to not run right through it and spoil everyones fun - well I managed to do that, but I think there are others out there who need to read Fishraider. Numerous times other boats would come and spoil the party for the 2 or 3 others that had got there first!

Worst of all, we lost a rod overboard on the way home. We left all four rods in the rocket launchers on the trip home (stupid, I know now) and when we got back to Roseville we all looked around to see only three rods! Bummer!

Well, I can certainly say I'm very happy with my Quintrex 530 Freedom Sport, its a great fishing boat, and the Yammy 115 4 stroke is powerful and quiet. The hull seems to ride the swells really easily. I hope its not a bad omen that we caught 0 fish... I'm putting it down to experience.

Next weekend I'll be off pittwater, maybe try some of the reefs that I read about on here.

cheers
