fryboy
Hi, As some of you may know from my other posts, I lost a good rod and reel overboard at North Head on Sunday. Very painful blow as it was only newish and bought as a gift for my 40th birthday. But looking on the bright side, it does give me an excuse to buy a new one! My dream is to catch Kingfish, and I love trolling. With those two things in mind, what would other Fishraiders recommend as a rod and reel combination? I'm not looking to break the bank, but I'm happy to spend a bit - I wont be letting this one overboard!! thanks for your advice Fryboy
jordan.widz
i reckon you should have a look at some jigging rods such as the shimano deep jig 200. ive got one and its great, I can use it to jig for kings over deep reefs or troll livies over shallow reefs for kings. You can get it in spin or overhead depending on which you prefer. but if you want a rod you can use for downrigging you'll need something a little longer with a more flexable tip so you can so you can load it up to set the hook when a fish strikes. something like a shimano bluewater or something in the live fibre range will do for downrigging Edited September 29, 2010 by Prawn Star
framedtrash
you can downrig with a jig stick with no worries i used to use a jigwrex s605 and had no problems loading it up just ditch the crappy release clips and use elastic bands instead works great
fryboy
thanks guys, I ended up going for a Shimano TR-200G and a 5'6' rod also by Shimano. This is a great setup for the price I wanted to pay. Jeff
