roosterman
hi guys as the title says, i need help in chosing which binoculars to get.. as i know bugger all on them i need help.. i think the first number is magnification,eg 7 x closer and second is diamiter of lense with bigger better letting in more light ??? the 2 i looked at were tasco 10 x 25 compact & bushnell permafocus 7 x 50 . the bushnell one was brighter but prob due to bigger lense... the compact prob easier to hold while driving as its lots smaller.. feel free to add any more into the mix preferably with reasons why ... thx guys.... cheers....steve..... Day's Fishin
Hi Steve, the first number is the magnification of what you would see with the naked eye. e.g. 10x40 means you will see your intended subject magnified 10 times the size you would see it with your naked eye. The second set of numbers is the diameter of the lens facing the intended object. The larger the number the more light it lets in so is better for low light situations. e.g. overcast days, dusk or dawn. Lastly as with everything else if you go cheap you will get crap. The numbers may be the same and therefore you may think the units will be the same, wrong. The better units will cost significantly more because the lens used are a better quality and the cases are more robust. I hope I have helped.
