Iphone4 Or Android Phones

Hi Raiders,

Spent the last few weeks looking at a new phone but still can't decide between iphone and an android phone, only bad thing i can say about iphone is it has no inbuilt gps.

I've also looked at apps and games etc for both phones and it seems iphone has the better ones, is there any good ones around for mapping etc when fishing for both phones?

Any feedback, experience or hands on knowledge of these phones and which is better would be greatly appreciated cause I just can't decide.

Cheers,

Leo

Android is not ready yet..maybe in a year or two. Apps are coming but are well behind Apple/iphone. For now go the iphone for usability and yes it does have GPS in-built.

GPS apps -

Navionics do Australia wide marine maps as per the big sounder maps for $15.

Metroview is a car GPS app that works as well as any stand alone GPS. $25

ive had a iphone since they first came out in 2007 and have been using smart phones since day dot and i have switched to android and couldn't be happier.

with android phones your not limited to 3 identical looking phones there are a number of different company's making different spec phones.

at the moment the HTC and samsung are my pick im currently using the samsung galaxy s and its great

as for the app markets give them time the app store has been around for alot longer then the android market place but its growing fast

and lets face it a good 98% of the apps on the appstore are rubbish how many flash light apps does it really need

Mate I work as a Tech Journalist specialising in phones and personally I'd go the Android phone specifically the HTC Desire HD that's exclusive to Vodafone and launching either this month or the next... In fact I AM doing that myself!

iPhones aren't as great as people make out, if you're not that tech savvy it'll be great for you to start with but once you feel like doing more with your phone you'll discover quite quickly that the iPhone needs to be jailbroken to do much since Apple really do lock it down tighter than a frogs butt.

The reason the iPhone needs so many Apps is because that a lot of functions of the iPhone are locked down and you physically NEED an app to do the job where as other phones will let you do them naturally and have done for years

And despite what was suggested above Android is quite ready as is and there are new versions full of new features released currently every 6 months, which is the reason it is outselling the iPhone and its market share has over taken the iPhone in the US and other markets, we have just been behind the curve on Android devices in Australia until early this year

it's also got a tonne of apps and even more being added daily, you will also find the majority of Android apps are FREE unlike on the iPhone where you will find you'll pay for pretty much everything and if there isn't an app for the phone yet give it time the app numbers are catching up with Apple's quite rapidly

Also avoid Samsung phones they have horrid firmware support, the Galaxy S might seem great but take it from me and the many people i know who have played with them and know Samsungs history they have a nasty habit of neglecting their users

So yeah my vote is for an Android Phone

If you have any more questions feel free to ask or PM me about them since if I went into all the technical details and stuff i have to deal with every day with work here I'd probably make peoples head explode or something lol
