piratesgold
Mongo's post promped me to tell of my own recent experience. My missus, Jackie, had never fished and wasn't interested either, this was to change. Earlier this year we were on a caravan tour of SA, and stayed at Port Neil for a week. I convinced her to come out of the comfort of the van and onto the Jetty whilst i fished, she declined the offer of a rod. So I asked her to hold my rod whilst I set up a second one (sneaky eh) I took my time. Suddenly she squealed 'theres somthing on the rod' and made to pass it back to me, i said 'well wind the bl**y thing in then, turn the handle'! she squealed and wound it in, landing a Tommy Rough, her face was a picture, excitement and wonder, she asked me to take it off and bait up so she could catch another (eh?) I have never seen her so excited, laughing and gleeful. she landed 12 in the next hour before they went off the bite, i got 2 because i was busy unhooking a, baiting and showing her how a rod worked, and how to cast. we were down the Jetty fishing every day for the rest of the week, Jackie mixed up the berley every night so she could take me fishing early each day. the rest of the holiday was spent looking for ports with Jetties, or easy rocks to fish off as we added to her species list (I was recovering from neck surgery, so couldn't get to the spots i usually would) When we returned home, we fished the local resivoir, but she complains it is dull compared to the sea. we are of to Windang in our vintage caravan in a couple of weeks, for a weeks fishing, we're bringing the tinny. WE are looking forward to it, SHE has started mixing berley already.........

Yes we had a feast of tommies and garfish, tommies are a bit small, one bite in a fillet and quite strong flavoured, but nice. we added flattie, squid and razorfish to our diet too. the jetty pictured is at Haslam SA north of Streaky Bay. we will be fileing reports when we get to Windang, and check fishraider often to see what is biting there. we will probably be too early for the prawns and the moon will be full anyway, but at least we will be fishin!
